Home Alone: Your Teen May be up to No Good

So, you are leaving town for an official trip, or an urgent task with your kid alone at home. This sounds okay to you, but it is not really okay. In fact, it is unsafe to leave teens alone as they are still not mature enough to know what to do and what not to do. Teens see this as an ideal situation, as they can literally do anything they want in the absence of parents. Not even computer software for monitoring kids or a long lecture on staying safe can stop them from having fun. If you somehow think that your kid has never disobeyed you, or he will never do anything irresponsible in your absence, then you may be in for an unpleasant surprise. This makes parenting teenagers a great challenge, especially if your job requires you to stay away from home on regular basis.

Invite Boyfriend/Girlfriend

The first thing your teen may do the minute you step away from home is to ask their boyfriend/girlfriend to come over. Having private time with the boyfriend/girlfriend without worrying about anything is something every teen waits and craves for. So if you left teen alone at home, then chances are he/she might have company by now. Of course, they do not just talk or eat or listen to music. You can expect anything to happen when two young souls are alone at home. It’s strongly advised to never leave kids alone at home, especially if you suspect or know that they are in a relationship. In case you have no option but to leave them alone at home, simply ask the neighbors or anyone else who is available to watch them in your absence to ensure they do not do anything ridiculous.

Watch Porn

Teens cannot watch porn when the parents are at home as they have fear of getting caught red-handed. This is why they always wait for the parents to leave in order to indulge in guilty pleasures without worrying about getting busted. It’s highly suggested that you install parental control software on all the digital devices of kids in order to keep them safe from misuse of internet privileges.

Throw a Party

Teens love parties as parties have everything that attracts them from beautiful girls/boys and drugs to alcohol and sex. Very few parents are okay with kids throwing such types of parties at home. This is why teens wait for the parents to be away from home before sending out invites.

Get High/Get Stoned

If your kids get stoned, then chances are you will punish them by grounding them for a week or decreasing their pocket money, something that kids just cannot afford that. Therefore, they prefer getting high when the parents are not at home. If your teen is alone at home, then he might invite his friends over to get high or get drunk.

Inappropriate use of Web Cam

Some teens find it very tempting to engage in long-distance sexual activities via web cams or share inappropriate images online with their boyfriends/girlfriends when they are alone without thinking about its consequences. With no fear of you barging into their room or interrupting these sessions, they’d be rather eager to switch on those web cams.

In short, teens do everything they are prohibited to do or cannot do in the absence of parents, be it drinking alcohol, taking drugs, having sex, watching porn, cyberbullying, throwing a party, etc. If you do not want your teens to act recklessly and abuse their freedom in a way that leads to long-term consequences, then you must never leave them alone at home.
