Helping your teenage daughter avert prom dress disasters

For a teenager prom night is the pinnacle of her teen years. Your daughter will spend weeks if not months in planning the perfect prom; dragging you on exhausting shopping trips to buy the perfect dress, shoes and accessories. Yet, in spite of all this planning, there is so much that can go wrong amid the anticipation and excitement of prom. So as a parent be prepared for damage control. Teenage prom disaster don't give a warning before they happen. But preparation and precaution goes a long way.

Wardrobe Malfunction

Make sure your teen is carrying either safety pins, or a small and discreet sewing kit, with her to take care of a broken dress strap or similar problems. A too long or dragging hemline can easily be mended with a double-side tape. Another way of averting this kind of disaster is to buy your teen the right kind of undergarments that go with her dress.

Broken heels

Broken shoes or heels are a very common occurrence. Your teen might be wearing heels for the first time and if your teen doesn't know how to walk with them, they might fall apart. It could also be due to the fact that didn't practice enough before the big prom day. To make sure a broken shoe doesn’t stop her from twirling on the dance floor, pack in her purse some super glue.

Hair doesn’t hold up

You may have spent a mini fortune on getting her hair done for this special occasion, but it can come undone with the slightest boogying on the dance floor. So make sure that the hair stylist shows your teen how to control this situation if the hair style is a complicated one. Otherwise, tuck away a bunch of bobby pins in her purse for minor touch ups. If she is wearing her hair loose for the night, make sure to spritz hairspray at her roots to add volume. You can smooth out frizz from her mane by rubbing in a bit of smoothing cream in.

Makeup Meltdown

Large gathering where a lot of people are jammed in together can generate a lot of heat, and heat will not just ruin a perfect hair do or wrinkle a dress, it causes make-up to disappear like magic. To help avert this situation, advise your teen to pack a few facial tissues to dab her face with. This will not only cool off her skin, wipe off excess oil from her face, but will help remove any make up residue as well.

Parents often ask themselves the golden question "how to raise teenagers and how to raise them right". The answer is mostly to be prepared for anything.
