Dealing with Bullies on Your Own is No Big Deal

Each day the sun shines through to welcome a new day, but as sad as it may sound, the sun doesn’t shine on everyone equally.

Each day an insanely large number of teenagers wake up with the fear of getting bullied in school and by the time the day ends, the youthful shine in their eyes is long gone.

Parents and other responsible adults can’t come to the rescue of bullied children all the time, so it is important to look for different ways in which kids can handle tough situations on their own.

You have to find a different approach when dealing with teenagers on this issue because they are not really big fans of telling all to an adult.

Parents might be running out of options against bullying unless they teach their kids how to handle bullying on their own. Learning to be street smart and aware gives teenagers a greater chance at developing their skills.

Exploiting the Fear Factor

The problem with bullying is that it never stops. This is the primary reason why victims of bullying live in constant fear.

In the long run, the fear can cause considerable damage to the psychological and physical health of bullying victims. Due to this reason, the cycle of bullying should be broken to give some chance to the victims to live free of fear if only for an instance.

Not Worth Your Time

Violence beget more violence, therefore the ideal response to bullies is not always retaliation. Instead, a kid who is under threat could also decide to ignore the taunts hurled at him/her by a bully.

It takes considerable courage and strength not to lose one’s temper as opposed to reacting aggressively towards an aggressor. Tell your children that it wouldn’t make them cowards if they turn their backs on bullies and completely ignore them.

Also work on your kid’s body language a bit so that he/she could walk tall and hold his/her head high. Dealing with bullies would become easier this way.

Develop Positive Body Language

Body language is the single most important thing to keep in mind when interacting with other people. A positive body language would make you worthwhile in another person’s eyes while negative body language would destroy your image; it’s as simple as that.

Take some time out from your daily routine to talk to your kids how to feel good about themselves and develop a confident outlook towards life.

Don’t Use Force

Teenagers shouldn’t use physical force when dealing with a bully because that is exactly what the bully wants. There is a good chance that your kid would be roughed up bad by the bully.

Instead, teenagers should learn to get a hold of the situation and avoid unnecessary conflict.

Hanging out with Like-Minded People

Kids should make an effort to make friends who share their values, beliefs, and interests. Kids bond well with people who are somehow similar to them. This method would also ensure that teenagers remain safe by hanging out in a group.

Scanning the Surrounding Area

Being aware of one’s surrounding can prove crucial in bad times. Teenagers should be able to scan their environment to identify the areas where bullies generally hang out, mark safe zones, and also look for escape routes in case the going gets tough.
